NITELIGHTS CHARGING

Battery & Charging Safety - Store and charge in a fireproof area
WARNINGS & GENERAL ADVICE- INSTRUCTIONS BELOW
A empty metal toolbox in the garage is the perfect place to store and charge your batteries away from all combustibles.
1. Charge in a protected area devoid of combustibles.
2. Never leave the charging process unattended or leave on overnight.
3. In the event of damage from crashes, etc., do not use
4. Never attempt to charge a battery with physical damage regardless of how slight.
5. Never attempt to charge the battery other than the NITELIGHTS charger provided.
6. Never use chargers designed for Ni-Cd or NiMH batteries.
7. Use only the supplied Nitelights charger that monitors and controls the charge state.
8. If the batteries show any sign of swelling, discontinue charging and remove them to a safe place—outside away from combustibles.
9. Do not attempt to make your own battery packs from individual cells.
10. To extend battery life try and avoid draining the battery completely always unplug the battery from the light as the green LED if left on will drain the battery shortening battery life.
11. Never get the battery or case wet as the battery draws in moisture, battery is C65 rated which indicates it is dust and light shower proof – we recommend you keep the battery dry.
12. We do have water proof batteries from July 2010 (we still recommend removing from a wet battery case)
Disposing of your Nitelights battery - Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion)
Li-Ion batteries do not contain metallic lithium and therefore are not an environmental risk. These batteries do however contain recyclable materials and are accepted for recycling by your local recycling or waste facility.
NOTES
· When stationary please turn off or dim (prevents overheating)
· The battery does come with a tested factory charge however please assume the battery is flat.
There is only one way to charge lithium-based batteries. The so-called 'miracle chargers', which claim to restore and prolong batteries, do not exist for lithium chemistries. Neither does super-fast charging apply. The 1st charge is no different to the 5th or the 50th charge. A new lithium-ion pack does not need cycling through charging and discharging. So once the green light is on you are good to go. ALWAYS CARRY A BACK UP LIGHT. Hints to long battery life keep in a dry cool environment away from combustibles. An ideal place is a metal toolbox / charge in the same box for safety.
Step 1 CHARGING THE BATTERY - in a non combustible area never leave unattended whilst charging, store in a dry no flammable environment.
· Charge the battery by plugging the charger into a wall socket with the power in the off position
· Plug the battery into the charger
· Turn the power at the wall on
A) Identify the LED colour on the charger
· If red LED battery is charging
· If green LED battery is charged, turn of power off first and disconnect plugs.
B) Charge time example:
· If you ride for two hours the battery will need to be charged for two hours or until green LED is seen.
· Warning: Check that the light or battery does not interfere with shifting or braking.
MOUNTING THE BATTERY ON YOUR BIKE
The battery should be positioned under the stem or under the top tube of the bike. Check that cables are free if mounting on the top tube. Thread the case under the cables and wrap around tight. (Incorrect mounting could result in injury)

Charge the battery before you use the system.
Never look at or shine the light at your own or anybody else eyes / if the light gets hot avoid contact
Leave the original reflectors supplied with your bike on the bike. The lighting system is not designed to replace the approved Australian and New Zealand Standard bicycle reflectors. The law requires you to use approved reflectors in conjunction with a lighting system. No amount of lighting will protect you from a motorist who may not be alert and concentrating. Never look directly at the light or touch when hot. Motorists will find the lights extremely bright adjust the light to a setting that is safe for conditions and not directed towards motorists eyes.
Failure to comply with the advice and warnings above will result in Nitelights Australia being not responsible for your negligence.
